It's funny how things crop up just when you start looking for them. While I was redesigning my website I was toying with replacing my headers with images because I much prefer Helvetica Black to Arial or Verdana bold. I eventually gave up on the idea because I wanted to give a more informative (i.e. dynamic) header in my blog, making images impractical. Well how about adopting an incremental approach? It's a bit like offering flashy CSS to new browsers and basic stuff to the old ones... If I was to add "Helvetica Black" to my font-family then everyone with that font installed would get the page as I'd like it while those without would never know what they were missing. Jeff Croft has written this idea up and suggested font combinations for cross-browser compatibility. Well done Jeff!
