Molly Holzschlag has written up her impressions of the recent Web Design World conference and what it means for the industry and web standards. I've noticed a few of these things myself but without the kind of exposure that someone like Molly gets it's very hard to draw and proper conclusions.
Very importantly, she's noted that attendance was up, implying bigger spending from agencies and therefore more money. Judging by the amount of work I've had to turn down recently I'd second that - the industry is definitely looking healthier. Long may it last!
The rest of the article covers various misconceptions about web standards, CSS and the terms that are bandied in association with them: no, tables aren't all evil; structure isn't semantics; CSS is a real-world technology; IE isn't as bad as we make out. All true.
